Restorative Aide

Purpose of this Course

The purpose of this course is to introduce all interested nursing home personnel (nursing aides, medical assistants, licensed practical nurses) to the basic knowledge and skills necessary to assist their residents in maintaining, improving, and/or regaining their functional independence.

A special emphasis will be placed on teaching participants the skills needed to work in the restorative or rehab nursing program at nursing home facilities.

The Beacon Hill Restorative Aide course provides healthcare professionals in nursing homes, assisted living centers, intermediate care facilities for the mentally disabled, schools, childcare settings, or patient homes. A Restorative Aide is trained to work under the direct supervision of a competent caretaker or licensed healthcare professional. Restorative Aides provide interventions that promote the resident’s ability to live as independently and safely as possible.

A Restorative Aide functions in an expanded role for the nurse aide. They perform duties to help residents function as normally as possible. These duties go beyond rehabilitation; they are a process of treatments or approaches to restore and maintain the highest level of functioning a resident can possess.

The Foundation of Healthcare

Your primary goal as a healthcare professional is to improve the quality of care, and by doing so, the quality of life, for the residents under your care. One way to accomplish this is to assist residents with achieving or, at least, maintaining their highest level of functional ability. You can do this by using restorative nursing programs such as our restorative aide training or medication technician training.

To be successful, you must have a foundational understanding of restorative nursing care. In this course, you will learn about restorative nursing as the foundation of resident care.
